Clear Lens Extraction (CLE), also called as Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) surgery is especially meant for people who are over 40 years and do not qualify for LASIK laser eye surgery. Similar to LASIK, the procedure corrects refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism so as to reduce or completely eliminate dependency on glasses. Though both LASIK and CLE/RLE are performed with the purpose to get rid of specs, this lens replacement surgery is highly recommended for people over 40 years.
Also, CLE/RLE which is very similar to cataract surgery (it is also used for cataract removal) has multiple benefits that extend well beyond. Sharp Sight (Group of Eye Hospitals) is one of the best eye hospitals in Delhi NCR to offer Clear Lens Extraction (CLE)- lens replacement surgery at all its centres at affordable cost.
As in a cataract surgery, depending on your vision needs and health of your eyes, your ophthalmologist will prescribe you a suitable IOL. There are three types of IOLs available to replace the natural lens of eyes during CLE/RLE surgery. These are:
This type of lens implant is most often indicated if you are over 40 years. However, reading glasses would still be required for this type of implant. If you already have a cataract, then the lens replacement may be a good option, as the natural lens may need to be replaced over time, anyways.
This type of lens implant known as PRELEX (Presbyopic Lens Exchange) improves near and distant vision. Hence it’s recommended if you are both hyperopic and presbyopic. PRELEX replaces natural lens with a multifocal IOL implant which successfully eliminates the need for glasses or contact lenses.
This lens implant can artificially accommodate itself like the eye’s natural lens instead of remaining rigid like other types of lens replacements. The lens works naturally in coordination with your eye muscles and therefore can focus on objects at all distances.
Lens replacement surgery is also called as RLR (Refractive Lens Replacement) and RLE (Refractive Lens Exchange). If you are presbyopic (the condition associated with ageing eyes when it looses its elasticity and hence makes it difficult for eyes to focus on objects up close) by exchanging your own natural lens for a multifocal lens/accommodating lens (Crystalens) implant, both eyes can regain their ability to focus at all distances. This surgery is also known as PRELEX (Presbyopic Lens Exchange).
