Sharp Sight’s Srinagar Eye Hospital Performs First Batch Of 20 Successful Cataract Surgeries
Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals performs the first batch of 20 successful cataract surgeries at their Srinagar eye hospital on Thursday. The age group of patients varied between 60-72 years, out of which 12 were female and 8 were male patients. The surgeries conducted using the world-class Zepto Pulse technology were performed by veteran ophthalmologist Dr Samir Sud and it brought solace to 20 elderly patients whose lives were affected due to clouding of the natural lens of their eyes. Raja Bano, a 63-year-old lady who visited Sharp Sight Srinagar eye hospital for her cataract surgery told a very pathetic story about herself. She said she had been sewing, embroidering and doing small work from home until six years back but then had to stop working due to her poor sight. “When I consulted a doctor at a private hospital in Srinagar, he wanted me to have an immediate cataract surgery on my left eye as due to the poor vision I could not even contribute to daily chores. But, I held myself back as I couldn’t afford the high cost.”
She extended her gratitude to Sharp Sight and Dr Samir Sud for restoring her sight which will help her regain her employment. “Post-surgery I can see better than before. I really have no words to thank the entire team. And, most of all, the cataract surgery took hardly any time. It got over within few minutes,” exclaims Bano.
Atif Sheikh, a 69-year-old is one among many patients who waited for several years to get his cataract removal surgery. At first, Sheikh would see halos around street lights and headlights at night which made it difficult for him to drive at night and later, it started affecting his daily lifestyle. “A few years back I was diagnosed with the cataract in both eyes, with right eye much worse than left, but because I am also a diabetic patient, I was apprehensive to go ahead with the surgery. I came to Sharp Sight’s Srinagar centre for their second opinion but after I met the cataract specialist I was so much convinced that I decided to go ahead with the surgery the following day. They also briefed and counseled me about different IOL options available these days. Also, I must admit that the surgery was totally hassle-free and postoperative I can see everything crystal clear,” says Atif.
With modern advances in cataract surgery, it is usually performed on outpatient basis. Besides, with the latest use of technology, it takes less than 15 minutes per eye. “Cataracts can be performed at any stage of development and in any weather. However, it’s important to understand that timely removal of the cataract is very important so as to prevent any loss of vision as cataracts are the common cause of blindness in the world,” explains Dr Sud.
